熔模鑄件現稱熔模精密精密鑄造,是一種少切削或無切削的精密鑄造工藝,是精密鑄造行業中的一項優異的工藝技術,其應用非常廣泛。它不僅適用於各種類型、各種合金的精密鑄造,而且生產出的鑄件尺寸精度、表麵質量比其它精密鑄造方法要高,甚至其它精密鑄造方法難於鑄得的複雜、耐高溫、不易於加工的鑄件,均可采用熔模精密精密鑄造鑄得。

我國是於上世紀五、六十年代開始將熔模精密鑄造應用於工業生產。其後這種先進的精密鑄造工藝得到巨大的發展,相繼在航空、汽車、機床、船舶、內燃機、氣輪機、電訊儀器、武器、醫療器械以及刀具等製造工業中被廣泛采用,同時也用於工藝美術品的製造。

所謂熔模精密鑄造工藝,簡單說就是用易熔材料(例如蠟料或塑料)製成可熔性模型(簡稱熔模或模型),在其上塗覆若幹層特製的耐火塗料,經過幹燥和硬化形成一個整體型殼後,再用蒸汽或熱水從型殼中熔掉模型,然後把型殼置於砂箱中,在其四周填充幹砂造型,最後將鑄型放入焙燒爐中經過高溫焙燒(如采用高強度型殼時,可不必造型而將脫模後的型殼直接焙燒),鑄型或型殼經焙燒後,於其中澆注熔融金屬而得到鑄件。

熔模鑄件尺寸精度較高,一般可達CT4-6(砂型精密鑄造為CT10~13,壓鑄為CT5~7),當然由於熔模精密鑄造的工藝過程複雜,影響鑄件尺寸精度的因素較多,例如模料的收縮、熔模的變形、型殼在加熱和冷卻過程中的線量變化、合金的收縮率以及在凝固過程中鑄件的變形等,所以普通熔模鑄件的尺寸精度雖然較高,但其一致性仍需提高(采用中、高溫蠟料的鑄件尺寸一致性要提高很多)。

熔模精密鑄造最大的優點就是由於熔模鑄件有著很高的尺寸精度和表麵光潔度,所以可減少機械加工工作,隻是在零件上要求較高的部位留少許加工餘量即可,甚至某些鑄件隻留打磨、拋光餘量,不必機械加工即可使用。由此可見,采用熔模精密鑄造方法可大量節省機床設備和加工工時,大幅度節約金屬原材料。
